  1. Looks like someone didn't think things through. Or maybe that was what was intended!

    1. I think this was intended.... To simplify the rules greatly

    2. Good question to pose in one of the press conferences in Naples next week. I'll come back and let you know what I find out.

  2. Wow. Definition of overlap changed, 18 applies between boats on different tacks at a top mark. Rules 17 and 13 (!) deleted... quite a different game!

  3. At least the rules are the same for top and bottom marks. The angles these boats sail there is not a lot of difference between an upwind and downwind course so to have the same mark rounding rules at both ends of the course makes sense to me. This, after all is only circus sailing, so easier to explain one rule to the general public.

    1. The sailors I've talked to, about the ACRRS, all think the changes are great. They adapt their tactics accordingly with the benefit of simplification of the rules.
And, stadium sailing or not, I predict we will see the effects trickle into the RRS. Not at once, but they will come.
Make it a starboard rounding and we are more or less back to how the RRS govern the rounding

  4. I will be in Naples and will ask some of the sailors for their comments. Sounds like Jos already has input from them that they like these changes. I'll see what they say about how it has affected their tactics.
